Post election spirit
Yesterday I voted for the first time in my life. Yuppy!!!Even though I was old enough to vote in the last 2 elections I, like most of the Bosnian youth, was very passive about political life. Very sad to admit that. :S
GROZD did. GROZD is a people's platform signed by almost 500.000 people in Bosnia (remember this country has approx. 3 million people).
This platform seeks accountability of the elected government and for the political parties to fulfill the national goals untill 2010: (these are the main things that need to be implemented in Bosnia as soon as possible)
1) 150 000 new work places in B&H;
2) Exterminate extreme poverty;
3) For the minimal pension to be 250 KM (125 EUR);
4) For every citizen in B&H to have access to the basic medical and social care;
5) For standard of life in the country side to be more reasonable according to the general life style;
6) For B&H to be a country with equal opportunities for young people;
7) Decrease the administration costs;
8) To complete the education system reforms in B&H;
9) To decrease the level of corruption in B&H;
10) For the country to fulfill the necessary conditions and gain a status of a candidate country for membership in the EU;
11) For public enterprises to be better regulated and more effficient in servicing;
12) To double the foriegn direct investments (FDIs);
I am sure something will change, for better. :)

My knowledge of eastern Europe is very limited, but even so, i remain forever fascinated by the sheer diversity and courage of Bosnians, Croats, Serbs and the like, I think the conditions that exist today in this part of the world are very much akin to a vicious circle of apathy, but i do also believe that it is aware and motivated youth such as yourself that will bring about the change required to lift these countries back where they belong, equal with the rest of Europe. So I wish you good luck, but I doubt that you need it.
Kudos to you for taking the vote - there is a lot of positive things that comes from setting goals and gaining strength through the masses to achieve them - empowering the people to take their future into their own hands so many more things can be accomplished by believing in ones self and believing in each other hand in hand, step by step - kulia i ka nu'u - striving for the top! Imua! - moving forward with positive spirit.
It sounds like you have real possibilities for positive change in B & H with the support of GROZD. Go for it!
how does it feel to have a voice in the future of your country? Pretty good huh?
hi meri,
coincientally, i talked to a friend in Bosnia. she told me about the election in which she voted for a Croat candidate. wait until you hear this. she is a fundamentalist bosniak, wearing a scarf, fast, pray 5 times a day, that sort of thing. isn't this something? there was some blood boil going on at her work, so she was happy that the Democrat Party (i don't remember the name, the main one represent Bosniaks) lost. (a person she does not like at work works for that party).
by the way, the anoynymous above was me. i forot to put my name. cindy
@ cindy: Well done to her for being brave and not voting for the nationalistic parties. At the end of the day it is up to her to choose who will be her leader even if she is covered or not. It is quite a different story i must admit, I like hearing that things are changing.
@ mc blogger: I thought my vote could not change anything but not I see it has after the official results came out, and I must say I am very happy. I think this country will go forward and next time i will vote again :)
Cheers to all of you who posted comments, thank you :)
